Nurses Appreciation Luncheon
PCHC was delighted to host the first Nursing Recognition Awards
Luncheon on May 9, 2008. The celebration was aimed at recognizing
the hard work and dedication of nurses in the Southeast Region of
Pennsylvania who advance health care for people with
intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD).
At the luncheon, four awards were presented to nurses who have had
a positive influence on the health and safety of people with I/DD.
Karen Ng, of Access Services, Inc. received the Nursing Leadership
Award, for her effective advocacy and support on behalf of people
she supports and her staff. Gerry Allerton, of Growth Horizons
and Salvation Army, was awarded the Dedicated Service Award, for
her significant and sustained contribution to the health care of
people with I/DD. Lastly, the Advocacy Award was presented to John
Gavin, of INTERAC, and to Barbara Haney, of Growth Horizons. Both
nurses have promoted health and independence for people with I/DD
through education and mentorship.
While only four awards were given, it is important to note that 22
nurses were nominated for these awards. Nominations recognized the
special activities, interventions, talents and abilities of all of
the nominees.
The efforts of all nominees are to be applauded. It is hoped that
nursing continues to be a strong force in the Southeastern Region
of Pennsylvania as we strive to support people achieving the best
and healthiest lives possible.
